ATC is managing an August 16-17 chainsawyer certification class at the Sugar Grove Konnarock Work Center! If interested, please contact Conner McBane (cmcbane@appalachiantrail.org as soon as possible.
Here is the link to the course registration, please register for the course before August 10th: https://volunteer.appalachiantrail.org/s/atc-project-details?c__recId=a0qUI000005XJkA
Josh will be presenting the Developing Thinking Sawyer curriculum during this course as well as providing details on the newest saw policy. Some things might seem new to you even if you took a course three years ago, but most of our basic chainsaw operations are very much the same including the use of OHLEC (Objective, Hazards, Leans/Binds, Escape Plan, Cut Plan). If you've never taken a Chainsaw Course then that's okay, we look forward to teaching you all the new curriculum!
As part of this new saw curriculum, there is some prework involved prior to the course. This prework is not required, but it is for your benefit so that you can familiarize yourself with the new curriculum and come to the course ready to engage with questions. Here is a link to the prework that I typically recommend folks try to have completed prior to the course: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1snbG6xWjOaJDWD43H3OwPJ8izkgvkaWz .
You will also be expected to have a First-Aid CPR Certificate or be in the process of obtaining one. Your saw card will not be valid until you have a valid FA/CPR certification. If you need Sawyer PPE or need a First-AID CPR training reimbursement, then please visit this link: https://appalachiantrail.org/get-involved/volunteer/safety/information-for-a-t-sawyers/ .Extra PPE, chainsaws, and tools will be supplied if you do not have your own. Since Josh is leading the course, please reach out to him (jkloehn@appalachiantrail.org) to request PPE/chainsaw/tools so that he can come prepared to support your participation.
